Fisher & Phillips Lawyers Named to "Top 100 Labor Attorneys"
July 7, 2008
Fisher & Phillips LLP, one of the largest national law firms representing management in labor
and employment law matters, announced today that the Labor Relations Institute (LRI), a 30-year-old
organization dedicated to maintaining union-free work environments, has included three Fisher &
Phillips lawyers from Atlanta among LRI’s annual listing of “Top 100 Labor Attorneys” in the United
States. The elite list this year is chosen from 8,600 practicing labor lawyers, based on the extent
of their experience in labor law and their win records.
Inclusion in the list puts the lawyers in the top one percent of labor attorneys in the U.S.,
making them the most active attorneys representing companies in National Labor Relations
Board-monitored elections. The honor of "Top One Hundred" was determined by the number of NLRB
elections in which each attorney provided representation and the success of those election
outcomes. The Fisher & Phillips attorneys have been included on the list since its inception in
2006.
Fisher & Phillips Chairman and Managing Partner Roger Quillen said, “Our clients continue
to benefit from the tireless work of our attorneys who practice in the area of traditional labor
law. These attorneys are rightfully recognized for ensuring that their clients get the best results
possible.”
The following Fisher & Phillips lawyers were recognized:
Steven M. Bernstein
Mr. Bernstein has played a primary role in advising clients in response to union organizing
campaigns, unfair labor practice charges, and economic work stoppages. A significant portion of his
practice is devoted to the implementation of preventive employee relations programs that include
supervisory training as well as the development and administration of effective human resources
policies and practices.
Douglas R. Sullenberger
Mr. Sullenberger has practiced labor and employment law on behalf of employers for 30 years.
During that time period, he has assisted over 600 employers in the United States, Canada and Puerto
Rico in their efforts to maintain a union-free status. He developed several interactive supervisory
training programs designed to help employers deal with union organizing drives. A member of the ABA
Committee on Collective Bargaining and Arbitration for more than 20 years, Mr. Sullenberger has
also developed a unique “Corrective Bargaining” program to help unionized clients modernize their
union contracts.
James M. Walters
Mr. Walters’ practice emphasizes the representation of employers in collective bargaining and
labor arbitration, maintaining union-free status, union organizing drives and unfair labor practice
defense. In addition to traditional labor law matters, he has also represented employers in the
defense of cases arising under the Railway Labor Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as
amended, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, the Americans with Disabilities Act and the
Family and Medical Leave Act.
